28th Nov 2003 - Chilli 1210 dimmers illuminate the Cologne Tower
At 148m high the “Kölnturm” is Cologne’s new landmark tower. Situated in the city’s media park, the tower is home to a host of commercial and leisure operations including cinema centres, internet companies, TV and radio stations.
The dynamic night time lighting for the building was designed by Professor Heinz Mack, in a scheme that creates a lighting matrix in the upper 11 floors. The lighting within the matrix jumps from floor to floor, moves in waveforms over one face or into all possible forms around the complete building.
More than 500 x MR 16/50W lamps are controlled with 11 x Chilli 1210 dimmers to illuminate the Cologne Tower each night. A Hog PC System is used to control the dimmers by DMX.
The installation was implemented by Jörg Maidorn from the Pink Noise Corporation in Würselen, with the Chilli dimmers specified and supplied by Zero 88 distributor LMP Lichttechnik GmbH from Ibbenbüren.
The new tower has already become a genuine landmark of the city at at night; providing a new visual experience to residents and visitors to the city.
