Fat Frogs for ChristmasNews Story Photo

30th Jan 2002 - Zero 88 and blacklight team up for Edinburgh’s Xmas Procession

As a fitting end to what has been a hugely successful year, the Fat Frog was chosen by blacklight to control the lighting for the finale to the Christmas procession through central Edinburgh.

After proceeding down Princes Street, the finale was held in Festival Square, where a large stage was erected for the 70-piece carol-singing choir. The high point of the finale was the arrival of Santa Claus on his sleigh (built by Allan Ross of Avonbridge Films). The sleigh appeared approximately 150’ above one of the buildings, on a crane positioned out of sight, and was lowered dramatically onto the stage.
The fairy that had been leading the procession later flew out the same way, sprinkling glitter as she went.

Paul McGreal of blacklight explained, “We supplied a PAR64 and City Color 2500 IP54 rig, controlled from Zero 88 Betapack 2's and a Fat Frog. The system was very reliable, easy to program, and the Fat Frog’s ample submasters provided easy 'on-the-fly' operation”

The procession was followed by around 200,000 festive revelers, with approximately 75,000 crammed into the square for the finale.
