Davidmk started following 12 universes on RJ45 Artnet 4 and Is 8.0 really buggy?
-
I was setting up a basic showfile for a new client's venue from scratch a bit back and installed v8 before starting. I had a crash in programming and while I couldn't be sure it wouldn't have happened with the old version (I've had crashes with v7.14.3) I regressed the desk and started again. Since then I haven't dared try v8 again. Only rational if you consider how bad it looks if you are working in a professional venue, spurning their house desk, and have to restart your own mid show. Back in the day, when I had a day job in IT, the rule was never install an even numbered release. The even numbered ones (and that especially includes .0 ones) tend to have new features, the odd ones have the bug fixes to the even ones. Maybe that's a still a good rule to follow

I know that, in theory, ZerOS desks can handle a maximum number of DMX addresses spread over upto 64 universes but I'd be really interested to know the number of channels people are actually using without problems. Anyone using over 1024?

With the release of ZerOS 8 the number of licensed channels in a FLXS48 is 2,048. https://www.vari-lite.com/global/news/releases/zeros-8-0 which can be patched across 64 universes. https://www.zero88.com/storage/downloads/manuals/zeros-en.pdf "On all ZerOS consoles, including FLX, FLX S24 & FLX S48, ZerOS allows fixtures to be patched across 64 universes without wasting unused channels. Any two of these universes can be sent out over the two DMX outputs. The total number of used channels across the 64 universes must not exceed the number of universes your console is licensed to output. All 64 universes can be distributed over an Ethernet network using either “Art-Net”, “Streaming ACN” or “CITP”.'

Anyone else found their FLX crashing on a regular basis since installing 8.0? We have 2 here and I used our spare at the beginning of the year on an external show after it had returned from the repair guy and loaded 8.0 on to it. During plotting the desk froze on numerous occassions especially when programming the moving lights. My main desk in the venue continued to run 7.13 with no problems at all including using the movers once they returned. 2 weeks ago, having forgotten about the desk crashes I installed 8.0 onto the main desk and we've had half a dozen freezing/crashing issues. Swapped over to the spare desk and the same so have now dialled both back to 7.14 and will see how that goes. No-one left at Zero to report it to or who seems to care so looks like I'll be losing all the upgrades that came with 8.0

OK, it seems there's no limit up to 64 universes, even though the specs mention up to 4 universes. But going into more detail, I can, for example, manage 96 fixtures of 40 channels each across 12 universes and therefore manage 3840 channels, because in this case too the specs mention a maximum of 2048 channels.🤔

kgallen started following Zero 88 Juggler Manufacture Date , 12 universes on RJ45 Artnet 4 and Apps?
-
In theory you can put channels across 64 universes. Might depend more on the ArtNet node handling two controllers. https://www.zero88.com/manuals/zeros/patching/available-channels

Hi, I need to connect my FLX S48 to a lighting setup that uses 12 universes. I'd like to confirm that the console can manage the 12 universes on the RJ45 connector using ArtNet 4. Obviously within the limits of the fixtures that the Flx S48 can handle. Thank you

That suggests they are just working on App Store issues to get the existing iOS apps available. No commitment there on updating them or getting the Android versions updated to go in the Play Store.

Yep! I was blown away too

Hi all, just an update regarding this. Things are looking hopeful! I got a reply from them two hours ago. I hope they won't mind me posting the email here for others to see: Good Afternoon Archie Thank you for your email. We have an IT issue with the Apple Store at the moment and the IT team are working in getting this resolved asap. We are hoping to get this back up and running by next week Kind regards

You've just blown my mind that I've never thought to see if there was a setup menu for each of the CBE pallette windows. I dread to think hour many hours of training videos you had to go through to find that! I will have to have an experiment now as well.
-
Bad luck then. By chance do you (or anyone else) happen to remember the URL to that page, or have it saved anywhere? We could always check https://web.archive.org/ on the wayback machine to see if anybody archived it.. Or do you mean this page? https://backstage.zero88.com/control (further down it has legacy products - they just give the same descriptions as on the Vari-Lite pages)
-
There used to be a huge archive page of Z88 products but seems like the Signify folks got rid of it - it only went down a few months ago. Real shame as it had a lot of great info including all the old desks...
-
I've had no progress on any, might try giving them a ring...

Thanks everyone for your help on this, after digging through a good few training webinars on YouTube, I came across the simplest answer - offset, specifically how the offset fans across fixtures. You can change this behaviour by holding setup and tapping effects. I set my shift click to be 'fan first' (Also experimented with the other fan options for different effects) then selected my fixtures, hit chase, held shift and span the encoder wheel to fan the offset of the effect until the chase matched up on all battens. Worked super nicely and certainly opens up some more interesting possibilities for programming Battens Chase LQ.mp4

Hi @Tim Molyneux, I'm glad the above solution worked for you. Indeed. You can use 'User File' instead of selecting 'USB' on the MFKs, which allows you to recall fixture profiles from a file previously loading in to the console via USB. At any time if you wish to delete these files from the internal console memory, you can do so by navigating to the <Update Fixture Lib> menu within setup. From there, you can select <Delete User Files>. Use the arrow keys to navigate which file you would like to delete from the internal console memory. Hope this helps!

Strange, I did hear somewhere that the Jester did, although it just could be my head playing tricks on me. You are probably right in what you've presented here with the line-up of consoles, so I appreciate the confirmation. It also can store memories (or 'steps' as it calls them, each step being part of a 'sequence') as well as having the ability of being in 2 preset mode. I've had a play with mine at home and although rather simple in the operation of it, I admire its simplicity. Thank you for the information you have provided me regarding the data sheet and the manual dates, I think I can try and work on figuring out dates with the info provided. I will continue to do some more digging on the forums as you have advised. Thank you again and have a lovely day!

Thanks everyone for you support - I'm delighted to say the file has loaded correctly using 'assign fixtures' from USB as you advised. Your time and help are really appreciated. One last query - will the file be stored in the console library for future use now that it is in the desk? Thanks, Tim

Juggler was a ‘simple’ 2-preset desk so I don’t think it was superseded by Jester which is a programmable desk. I think the lineage was more like: Level series -> Juggler Alcora/Elara -> Jester Illusion -> Jester TL, ML Sirius -> Frogs Stage Electrics had Juggler in stock (albeit clearance) earlier this year. I’ve not seen Jesters on sale new for a long time. So in answer to your question, Juggler could have been current until 2021/22 timeframe I recon. The datasheet says ‘(c) 2018-2021 Signify’ as a copyright date. The Juggler manual says 2005. So it was around for some time. Maybe search on the forum to see if Jon mentioned a discontinue date.

Hi all, hope you are well. I was just curious.. from when to when were the Jugglers being manufactured? Usually, on a page (for example the Jester Series https://www.vari-lite.com/global/products/jester-series) it tells you when they were manufactured, this case being 2008-2017 for the ML range. However, on the Juggler page (https://www.vari-lite.com/global/products/juggler) it does not mention the manufacture date anywhere. I am aware that the Jester Series superseded the Juggler, but does anybody know this information per chance? Many thanks for any info you can supply me with.

Jon's departure post says this is the official contact email address to use: Conversely, the Vari-Lite website (https://www.vari-lite.com/global/support/technical-support) says to use support@zero88.com - I imagine this redirects somewhere new now...

Just to be sure, people in this thread who have already emailed support (@ATC Tech and @Charlie Newman) and haven't got a reply, have you used one of the old email routes, or the functional one? I've used this address, 'zero88support@signify.com' and have got replies before.

Following as i have the same problem for IOS here in Australia. I have downloaded before on other iPhones and iPad but can’t download now. Not available in my region error. I have emailed support, but no response yet.
-
Unfortunately, same issue here too. I cannot seem to find any trace of the ZerOS Monitor and Remote apps on the Apple App Store, even in the ‘My Purchases’ section which is meant to show every app on your device added via the App Store. Luckily I have them downloaded already on two iPhones and two iPads and they still work. Hopefully we shall see what happens with the email to Signify. If I remember correctly, these apps were still under the Eaton Apple Developer App Store account. Not sure.

Hi @Tim Molyneux, the above post should definitely solve your problem (thank you @mikeb) as you are trying to load in a fixture personality file in the way of loading a fixture library file onto the desk. Using 'Assign Fixtures' -> USB as described in the manual above will work. Regarding this, I thought I'd just chip in and mention about file formats for future reference: JOS files are the file format for the Jester operating system when updating the console's OS. JSF files are showfiles for Jesters in the 12/24 and 24/48 range. JML files are showfiles for Jesters in the ML range, TL and TLextra range. I hope this is of use for the future for file format knowledge. Edit: To add, I have attempted to upload the IFT file provided above on my own JesterML console using the method in the manual via 'Assign Fixtures' and it does load in correctly.
