DMX patching / faders

Hi all

Have been trying to patch a 10 channel Parcan onto a Jester ML24 and to some extent this works as when I exit the set up mode I can edit the light with the function keys colour brightness ect. However I have 6 other lights that I can fade on and off from the preset A faders, how can I add this new light to be on fader 7?

When I go into the dmx patch, with the light patched in at 70 I can only set the number 7 fader chanel to either 69 or 81. I have also done the inverse setting the channel fader to 70 and the Light to the next closest dmx channel up but this too doesn't work.

For the 6 other lights that have been already programed before, they are also 10 channel, with for example light 1 is set on the patch channel dmx 1 and the patch fixture to dmx2.

Hope this makes sense

Many thanks

Tom

Hi Tom,

On Jester ML consoles, the channel faders can be used to control individual DMX channels. It is therefore not possible to patch a 10-channel fixture to a channel fader, as the channel fader only controls a single DMX channel.

This will be because DMX addresses 70 thru 79 are already in use by the 10-channel fixture patched to one of the fixture MFKs. You therefore cannot re-patch a channel fader to an address already in use by a fixture.

If you can control the intensity of other 10-channel fixtures using the faders, this would suggest the fixture's intensities have been programmed into Submasters. I would assume that if you tap the FIXTURES key, you can see all your 10-channel fixtures on the MFKs.

Hi Edward

The first part makes sense, the preset faders can only have one channel, and yes all the lights appear when the fixture key is pressed.

However regarding your second point no Submasters appear to be set up when looking on the monitor screen.

Interestingly, the 6 lights already on the desk when you select them in fixture, on the right hand screen nothing appears (above the spinning wheels) however when selecting the new light you can adjust the intensity. The existing 6 lights intensity can only be controlled by the faders in preset A 1-6.
