pairing a Juggler and Jester 24ML

Recommended Posts

I have a Juggler desk and a Jester 24ML which we mainly use for the two small venues we have here.

Every so often we need more than the 24 faders on the Jester and I was told, when I bought the Jester and Juggler, that they could be paired to work together as one board. As we have two venues I went for two units rather than one 48 channel desk.

When I follow the basic set-up instructions for pairing a desk to the Jester it doesn't seem to work. I have connected the Juggler to the Jester via the DMX and am able to control lanterns via the Juggler so it's obviously happy or at least there is a working DMX chain. I am also able to soft patch the Jester presets to be 25-48 so, in theory, I now have a 48 channel desk albeit a rather bendy one.

The main problem arises when I try to programme a show... the Jester doesn't seem to programme the Juggler's faders in at all. Someone has stated on the Blue Room forum that you can pair the desks for live control of all 48 channels but you cannot programme anything other than what is directly running from the Jester.

Is this right? It doesn't make a huge amount of sense if it is.

The additional info for this would be that I am trying to control a number of LED par groups and as we have cheapy ones that don't include a master/dimmer channel I can't run them from the fixture controls as they don't programme well and won't follow fade or blackout settings. If there was a way round this it would be a short term solution but not really a 100% fix to my need to programme 48 channels.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi T&B

You'll need to patch the Jugglers channels (1 to 24) as channels 25-48 on the Jester. Because these channels aren't patched by default, the Jester doesn't store them. Once they are patched, you should see them stored into cues and away you go.

As far as the LED fixtures go, the Jester supports a virtual brightness channel which scales the Red, Green and Blue channels accordingly. If you add this into the fixture personality, then you should be able to make them follow the fade times etc.

I hope this helps,

Kind Regards,
