  1. Resetting the desk is probably a good idea - it will clear out any current show data on the desk and ensure that the preset faders are patched 1:1 with the DMX outputs which makes it much easier to use :)

To reset the desk you will need to enter Super User (page 6-1) and then select the Clear to Default option from the Clear/Reset functions (page 6-13).

  2. How many channels of dimming and parcans have you got ?

If the answer is 24 or less then you can operate the desk in normal two preset mode; if between 24 and 48 you will need to go into wide mode to have individual control of all the dimmer channels/parcans.

If you are completely new to using the fat frog desk to control lights and find the terminology used in the manual a bit confusing then you could always have a look at the frog training program that Sam Henderson has produced .... CLICK HERE.

  3. It's probably worth trying it a few more times. I remember a while back there were certain problems with some floppy disk drives not recognising that there was a disk in there. This seemed to cure itself after a few attempts.

You could also try reformatting the disk on your PC and then copying the new software onto it and see if that helps.

  4. We were discussing this issue yesterday and basically Brian has hit the nail on the head here :)

We try our best to reply to new posts as quickly as possible but all of the support staff here have a number of important tasks that take up most of our working days. Monitoring, administration, moderation and replying to posts on these forums is not the job of a single person and is usually carried out during normal working hours.

The majority of our time is spent specifying, designing, implementing, testing, reviewing, fault-finding, servicing, repairing and documenting a wide range of products - so that you have these products to ask questions about :P

  5. The position of the submaster fader determines the output level of the HTP channels (dimmer channels and fixture brightness parameters) programmed in the chase memory.

LTP channels (fixture colour, beamshape and position parameters) programmed in the chase are triggered when the submaster is raised past the LTP trigger level.

The speed of the chase is determined by the Speed modifier programmed into the chase memory but may be adjusted live when the chase is running, if required.

The other chase modifiers (direction, attack etc) may also be adjusted live - See This Topic

  6. Program your chase memory.

You can then transfer the chase memory onto a submaster with or without the fade times using the corresponding front panel buttons.

If you are simply transferring a chase memory onto a submaster then see the section Transferring a Memory (2) on page 5-5 of the manual ... I don't think I can explain it much clearer than that :P

  7. There are number of points to remember here ..

Although the FROG function may perhaps be perceived as an automatic 'chase' outputting random 'steps' it is not the same internally as a chase memory.

The FROG function currently only applies to LTP channels (colour, beamshape and position parameters). You cannot currently FROG dimmer channels or fixture brightness (intensity) channels. This was experimented with originally when the FROG function was in development but quite frankly, didn't look too good.

For your dimmer channels it is probably best to program a chase memory with a number of steps to give the impression of 'random' outputs, set the drive modifier to base, and transfer the chase memory onto a submaster.

If you record channel data which contains fixture parameters which are "FROG"ging rather than outputting a constant value, raising and lowering the submaster fader will NOT start and stop the FROG effect - the LTP parameters that are programmed will be triggered when the fader passes the LTP trigger point but they will not be 'stopped' when the fader is lowered. You could always program another submaster with the same parameters at a fixed value (eg their home position) to stop the fixtures FROGging.

The FROG function can be set to sound to light mode via the FROG Function Screen (see manual pages 7-4 and 7-5 for further details)

  8. Download the fixture editing tools from the Zero 88 website and install them on your PC.

You will need the Fixture Type Editor.

Run this program and create a new fixture type file.

You can then import the required minimac fixture type file from the fixture library (also available from the Zero 88 website).

Edit the default (home) value of the Shutter parameter to the required value and save the fixture file.

Copy the user fixture type file to a floppy disk and then assign the fixture(s) on the desk to this new type.

  9. Frog 2 Operating Manual - Issue 2

The Frog 2 Operating Manual (Issue 2) is now available: CLICK HERE

This new issue of the manual includes all the new and modified features implemented in Version 2 of the software.

Please Note: For details of new or modified functionality since Version 2 of the software, please also consult the Release Notes, available for download from the same page as the manual.

  10. In Japan, they have replaced the impersonal and unhelpful Microsoft error messages with Haiku poetry messages. Haiku poetry has strict construction rules. Each poem has only three lines, 17 syllables: five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, five in the third. Haikus are used to communicate a timeless message, often achieving a wistful, yearning and powerful insight through extreme brevity - the essence of Zen.

  11. A Chase does work with channel data of course but it is a more complex type of memory than the more simple scene memory.

A chase is a number of steps each of which contain channel data (generics and fixtures) but there are also a number of modifers that are stored as part of the chase memory which determine how it runs (Direction, Attack, Drive, Speed, Colour Action, Beamshape Action and Position Action).

  12. If the six movement effect parameters could be tagged and programmed individually - yes it could create a huge number of possibilities ... it could also create a huge number of problems !!

The different movement effect parameter outputs could be coming from different sources (playback stack, submasters, position palettes, control wheels).

Even if you could program an individual movement effect parameter onto a submaster you could still only use the fader to trigger the effect parameter to it's programmed value since they are LTP parameters not HTP parameters ! The submaster fader movement would not have continuous live control of the effect parameter.

  13. somekind of editing an memory output while another is running?

If you are referring to Edit Blind ... this was implemented in Version 9 .. CLICK HERE

Topset isn't yet implemented on the Frog series, but is already a feature request (Frog Reference 5417). We also have the following logged:

Frog Reference 5415 - Inhibit Function

  14. The Bull Frog has 96 generic channels and up to 24 fixtures.

Some larger fixtures require in excess of 20 channels per fixture. If you had 24 fixtures at 20 channels each that would require 480 channels of DMX leaving a mere 32 channels for your dimmers.

Therefore in these situations it is sensible to patch your fixtures on one universe and your generic channels on the other.

Remember also that each generic channel may be patched to more than one DMX address.

  15. Frog 2 Operating Software - Version 2.0.3

Version 2.0.3 of the Frog 2 Operating Software is available in the Zero 88 Support Centre of the Zero 88 website: CLICK HERE

This new version contains the following bug fixes:

    • Artnet Options are now saved after exiting Setup

Updating palettes no longer causes lockup.

Holding shift and mouse click no longer causes desk to crash.

Edit: Updated to version 2.0.3, which is functionally identical to 2.0.2, but contains a hidden trick to assist upgrades on some earlier desks. If you experience any difficulty installing the software, call us, and we'll talk you through what you need to do.
