  1. Hi

Looking for some advice on what people are using for this.  All I want to do is control my light desk using a PC.  I have asked about this before and tried the software suggested.

QLABs is mac only and we don't use macs.  I had a look at this and it does do what I need.  All i need is a timeline i can drop an audio file on then add MSC to different parts of the song to control the lights.  What i like about Qlabs is the timeline view.  But as we can't use apple in school i looked at SCS

SCS does what I want with MSC but the time line sucks.  I want to be able to zoom into the timeline so I can put the MSC command exactly where I want without having to play the track and almost to try guess.

Is there any PC software out that that has both of these features that you can recommend?

    thanks

  2. Hello

I am hoping that you can give me some advice.  We are looking at automating cues with music so that as like 0:33 in the song the lights flash or change currently we have to press the cue button on time.  I am quite surprised to see that there is no duration setting within the cues as this would be really handy and very useful!

Looking into this further I see i need a USB to Midi device the MOTU FastLane USB MIDI interface.

Can someone please tell me what is the best Windows software to use with this?  Are there any videos on how you use the software and the interface?

  3. Morning

We have a little issue that I am hoping someone can help.  We currently have 2 universes setup I assume these are from DMX 1 and DMX 2 on the back of the desk.

I am removing quite a few single channel tungsten lights and need a new universe so I can replace the tungsten's with LED moving heads.

Tried to configure on the desk, i read you can have up to 64 universes but when I try and create universe 3 and assign to either DMX 1 or 2 i am obviously already using this and the error reflects that.

Please can you tell me how I easily create a new universe please?

    thanks

    Hi Paul,

Thanks very much for sharing your show file. I can confirm that playback 26 does indeed include RGB @ Full for fixtures 140 thru 212. Therefore upon raising playback 26, it will set these fixtures to white. Playback 26 does not include intensity information for fixtures 140 thru 212, however the intensity is already up from playback 25, hence you see the colour change.

To remove this unwanted colour information from playback 26, double tap CLEAR, and raise playback 26, with nothing else active on stage. Then tap UPDATE, and from the Update Options, enable SmartTag, so it has a red stripe. Then tap Playback 26's button. This will remove any parameter information that may have been present in playback 26, for fixtures currently @ 0% intensity.

I hope this helps. If you have any questions, please let us know.

    Edward

Thanks for this we will have a look at what you recommended.  What i don't understand is when we created playback 26 (floor battens) we only selected these and double cleared each time so why would it have also selected the wall battens 140 thru 212?

I believe we could be recording these incorrectly, to record a playback for these wall battens (140 thru 212) should we be selecting all parameters? Tagged etc we can't find this information in the manual what all those different options are,  in addition when you select something you get red, green and blue.

    Hi Paul,

Thank you for your description of the issue, and for providing a video.

The wall battens are also included with the floor battens in your floor batten cue. The reason behind this will depend on how you recorded the cue, and the Record Options that were set.

I would recommend re-recording these playbacks, and ensure that after recording each cue, you double tap CLEAR, to allow you to then create the next lighting state from scratch.

If you still come across the issue, please email a copy of your show file to support@zero88.com, and we will take a look.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

    Edward

Hi Edward. Thank you. We definitely hit double clear. We have just discovered that if we put the floor batten playback up first then put up the wall batten playback it works fine which is strange. However do the wall battens first then the floor battens this then breaks it.. The floor battens start on a lower channel 111 the wall battens are a higher fixture number. We are confused.

We have tried recording it as tagged fixtures, selected fixtures all parameters etc. Only works if you bring up the floor battens first.  We have also recorded the group using no settings this also does not work. Bring up the wall battens first then something else breaks it.

    I have attached our showfile.

Playback 25 is the wall battens

Playback 26 is the floor battens.

You put up 25 then 26, the wall battens break.

You put up 26 then 25 is fine both working with effects.

  6. We have also discovered that even using colours when using another fader the first playback changes to white. No clue why I have added a video. The wall battens selected orange and recorded a playback. The floor battens selected red and recorded as a playback. When raise both one turns white.

  7. Hi. We have reset our desk and currently creating some default playbacks.

We have an issue we have selected our battens and put an effect on them. This works by raising or lowering the fader fine. We then create another playback using the battens on the floor add an effect and record to fader two.  These work fine independently but when you use both the other one stops the effect? Why is this, we have tried all the settings within the playback options but can't figure it our. Surely we can have different effects on different lights recorded and use these at the same time as they are differnt fixtures.

    Thank you.

    Hi @Paul Bennett 211

On FLX, you have never been able to rearrange the windows on the external desktops. In earlier software versions, the "Effects" window was not included on the Groups/Colour desktop, and therefore the Groups window was full width. When the Effects window was added to this desktop, the Groups window was resized to the top quarter, making it 5 tiles wide to match the internal Groups window.

The JEM Compact Hazer Pro is included in the ZerOS Library under the "Martin" manufacturer. To convert your existing fixture, select just your JEM Compact Hazer Pro in the Fixture Schedule, and then choose Convert All Profiles. Then click Show All, and find the fixture under Martin. You can then click OK.

    I hope this helps,

    Edward

    Perfect found it,  nice one.

    Hi @Paul Bennett 211

The window layouts on the external desktops are pre-defined, and cannot be customised or resized. Fully customisable window layouts are on the roadmap for a future ZerOS release.

No problem! If there's anything else you need, just let us know.

    Edward

That's a shame.  On our old version we had this which is annoying.

I just looked at the fixture that is in red.  It's our JEM compact hazer pro.  I watched the video and there is no fixture in the library for us.  the one it suggests is the GLP Fusion Par FP7 which its obviously not.  Is there a way to get the JEM Compact Hazer Pro fixture?  I know it will work as is but was wondering if its possible to get them all from the library.  I have used the latest library file.

    Hi @Paul Bennett 211

When you load in a show file, ZerOS looks at the fixtures in the show file, and compares them to those fixtures in the library. If the fixtures in your show file are not from the same library version as the library currently installed on your console, ZerOS will import the fixtures from the show file. This ensures that your existing cues play back exactly how you recorded them. These fixtures will be displayed in red in the Fixture Schedule, to indicate they are not from the library.

The Fixture Schedule provides the ability to convert these show file fixtures, to their latest library equivalents. For more information, please see the link below...

    https://zero88.com/manuals/zeros/patching/fixture-schedule/change-fixture#convert

If you are not able to convert all your fixtures to the latest library versions, this doesn't matter, as you will continue to be able to use the original version of the fixture without issue.

    Hope this helps,

    Edward

OK thanks last question today i promise!   We have an attached touch screen monitor.  We have checked the manual but can't find a way to re-organise the panes.  We would like the Groups window to extend across, and the effects to drop down and replace one of the colour palettes is this possible?  I have attached a picture to show what i mean.  thanks

  11. Hi we are looking to upgrade our FX desk.  I am reading the instructions which state, Consoles running ZerOS 7.8.3 or later you can download to a usb and install.  But consoles running 7.8.2.39 or older need to follow different instructions.  Which do I use, its quite confusing as we have a software version and an OS version,  The OS version is 7.8.1.2 which is obviously older and then the Software version 7.9.6 which is newer so i am slightly confused.  Then the latest version to download is 7.10?

On a separate note we are looking to rename our fixtures as the current naming is quite confusing, I am wondering what people have found is the best way to name.  We have lights like Lectern soft, Lectern hard.  Then other like above stage rear left centre?

  12. Hello it's me again @Davidmk

I have another issue that the guy before me was trying to solve before he left but did not get round to it so I am hoping someone here can help me.

We have "stage uv" playback 21 and "main hall uv" playback 22.  These are multiple lights set to uv.  You can use each fader separately without issue.  So i can get uv on the stage then uv in the main hall.  However, if you use both faders together then something really strange happens.  The lights on the stage turn white along with one in the main hall.  If you do this the other way round bring up 22 and then 21 the main hall lights turn off.

This is the email that he sent to someone at Eaton.com whoever that is?

Subject: [EXTERNAL] MGGS FLX Show File

    Dear Keith,

Please see attached showfile, the Hall & Stage UV faders on playback page 2 faders 21 & 22 work fine when used independently but when pushed to 100% together there is some white strobes coming through on the hex fixtures.

The blackout button also keeps forgetting latch.

The desk keeps crashing, throwing errors and not responding.

    Hi Joe,

From what I can see the fixture has colour set to 255 for the RGB in playback 21 but no intensity, and in playback 22 it has the dimmer and the UV at 255.

When you bring up both faders at the same time it is triggering the 21 colour attributes putting the colour to white then bring the dimmer in on a HTP base from 22. You would need to remove the fixture from 21 to stop it doing that.

For the blackout button, I have not seen this before and could not replicate the issue with the your desk or any other desk when testing for it. It will how load as part of the show file it initial set so if loading an old file as a set up make the change and resave this.

     Regards,

    Keith

I have absolutely know idea what his reply even means or what fixture he is referring to.  Any helpful information on where to start to trouble shoot this would be appreciated.  Willing to send the showfile if that would help.

    Thank you.

  13. Thank you very much.  I am going to watch all the videos and teach myself this system.  Having started a new job they have the full FLX with additional faders so want to learn it.  Am sure ill have more questions!

  14. Just put the batten 5 back to its starting number of 288 and it works!!!!

Thank you all so much,  Must have just been a wrong number on one of the fixtures but without knowing what to look for its had to diagnose.  Learnt quite a bit over the last couple of days about DMX so will continue watching the videos.

    thanks again.

The address on the fixture is the first address that fixture uses. On the desk it has been patched as 12 fixtures of 3 channels each. This is perfectly OK. If you had an FLX S desk you'd be in trouble as those desks are limited to 24 or 48 fixtures but a full FLX desk has no restriction on number of fixtures only on DMX channels.

Glad you've got to the bottom of this. Hopefully you've learned some stuff about DMX now which will help when you run into your next patching issue.

OK that makes sense.  Nice one.

I have not fixed the issue though. I have batten 5 and 6 working as 1 light. But still have the issue if I change the address back..  So where should I look now to resolve this.

Thanks for the help with this

If, as you claim, 5 & 6 have the same starting address, are both in 36ch mode and neither is faulty then this should not happen.

Bit of a long shot this but take the DMX line from your desk direct to fixture 5 and unplug 7 from 6. If you have a DMX terminator plug it into the DMX out of fixture 6.

We are looking for a bad DMX connection here. If there's no change take the feed from the desk to 6 and connect 5 to the DMX output on 6. Move the terminator to 5

(If you don't have a DMX terminator then get a couple, they are fairly cheap on ebay/amazon. Put them in your toolbox and always try them first if things don't behave as expected.)

I made a mistake. The dmx number on batten 6 was different don't know what I did there...

Now 5 and 6 are the same it is treating it as the same light. All colours are fine..  I also checked all lights and they are in 36 channel mode..

On a different note. Why are the fixtures set to 36 channels but I only have 3 dmx address? Does that matter?

So what can be my issue? Ruled out a faulty fixture..

  17. @Davidmk Thank you.

    Made some progress lol.

I gave batten 5 the same number as batten 6.  Now 5 goes to the correct colour the issue has moved to batten 6 ha ha

    1646308954273237112422921144549.jpg

What is strange is they are not behaving the same...  The issue is now batten 6 even though it has the same starting address as batten 5 (d324)

  18. 10 minutes ago, Davidmk said:

I think you have. It looks to me as if you've made the address changes on the desk - what @Edward Z88 meant was to change the address on the fixture and leave the desk alone. In this case the desk only "sees" one fixture but both fixtures should behave the same.

Doh! Let me change the physical fixture to the same as another batten.

  19. 14 minutes ago, Davidmk said:

Absolutely it is OK to have two identical fixtures with the same address - as long as you want both fixtures to do the same thing at all times.

The system told me I was giving it the address of a fixture but I selected patch anyway and now the addresses on batten 7 have gone so it only allows me to have one?
