We recently have purchased two Chauvet P7 geyser smoke machines
We have encountered problems
They have been sent back to Chauvet and been fully tested. They have been unable to replicate the fault that we have had running them through our Zero 88 FLX  desk.

The conclusion is that there is an error in the fixture library for the Chauvet P7
We have a Chauvet P6 and have no problems
They have been tried through Gateway 4  and straight DMX . No problems with a hand held remote.

The  problem  is that the LED's on the P7 time out after just 2 minutes  this is regardless as to whether they are fired in the first 2 minutes or not. If the units are depowered and turned on again the led's and smoke work but only for 2 minutes

Has anyone else encountered these problems?
Is there an updated fixture library for the P7?

Is there a fix?
ThanksDes

We have run these machines now for multiple days using different Chamsys Desks and our smaller Obey desks. On each desk they run as expected, we will be sending these back today so you should get them back tomorrow or Monday. If when you get them back you can test the units again and see if they have the issue again, if they do, we will have to have a chat with Zero88 and check how to unit is setup on the desk.

Usually smoke machines have very simple controls. A channel for smoke, maybe a channel for a fan (more usual on a hazer). So the fixture profile is usually very unexciting compared to say a moving light. I would patch dimmer channels at the address your smoke machine is set for and have a play. Look at the DMX map that should be in the smoke machine document. Is there a channel that needs some weird value to keep the smoke machine awake? Within the Fixture patching steps you can create your own fixture for the smoke machine if you think the library one has some issue once you’ve played with the dimmer-per-channel thing above and checked the manual for any weirdness for the smoke machine.

I just looked in the manual, assuming it’s Geyser P7.

Theres nothing special. 1 channel for fog, then 14 for pretty lights. I didn’t see anything about the machine going to sleep.

Also seems there is nothing the DMX controller (FLX or Chauvet) could do wrong or cause what you observe.

Is the machine powering off completely?

Are you trying to fire smoke continually?

I've done some digging, and it appears in the Chauvet P5 manual that they mention "The LEDs will automatically shut off after 60 seconds of sustained output. Reset the dimmer to re-enable LED output", indicating you'll need to take the dimmer channel of the fixture (CH15) to zero and back up again in order to re-activate the LEDs.

I understand that you're using a Chauvet P7, but I'm thinking that this behaviour might cross over to the P7 too and just wasn't mentioned in the manual perhaps?

Hope this helps advance this further.
