FLX S24 doesnt boot without USB Pendrive

Taske

Recommended Posts

Hello Zero 88 Team & Members.

I have a problem with a FLX S24.
The desk is not booting (leds flashing from the left to the right)

When I plug in a pendrive with software It boots. I also tried to update (from 7.9.9 to 7.10) which was successful, but it did not solve the problem.

When the console is off for more then a few seconds it does not start again, until I put the pendrive and power off/on again.

I made a backup of the show before. Even with no show loaded it doesn't boot. (Screen stays off, just leds from left to right)
I used the ZerOS-7.10.exe to create the USB and copied the exe file on it as well.

I followed the trouble shooting-guide.

In case there is a difference, is it possible to make a fresh installation of the OS instead if just updating in?

Thank you very much in advance

- Philip

Hi Philip,

Welcome to the Zero 88 Forum.

This is very odd behaviour. To confirm, you have found your console is not booting, unless it has a USB drive plugged in? Can you use any USB drive to allow the console to then boot?

I would recommend performing a fresh install of your console's software, using the ZerOS Start-Up Tool. Please see the link below, for information and instructions...

https://zero88.com/manuals/zeros/trouble-shooting/zeros-startup-tool

The Start-Up Tool will allow you to load the ZerOS 7.10 application (.exe file) directly into the console.

I hope this procedure helps, please let me know how you get on.

(Thank you for attaching a picture of your console's details. I have now removed the image from your post).

Hi Edward, thanks for the fast answer.

I used that tool already - sadly the desk have the same problem.

Could it be a hardware problem? Like a corrupted  ROM or flash is bad?

If I plugin a empty USB pendrive the console won't boot.

Kind regards

Philip

Hi Philip,

Thank you for confirming.

To confirm, does this USB drive simply have the ZerOS 7.10 application stored on it, in the .exe format, or has this USB drive been formatted using the ZerOS OS Creator software?

(The ZerOS OS Creator is only required to update consoles running early software versions).

If you have any questions, please let us know.

hello, have experienced same issue with my FLX 24S, are there any updates in this topic?

Sorry to hear you have experienced the same issue.

To confirm, are you finding that your console only boots with a USB drive connected?

Have you also tried this...

Sorry to hear you are still having difficulty booting your console. I would recommend trying the following process:

  1. Boot the console with the ZerOS-formatted USB drive - the console should boot up.
  2. Unplug USB drive.
  3. Plug USB drive into a Windows PC, and in File Explorer right click on the drive, choose Format... then click Start
  4. Copy the ZerOS 7.10.exe file onto the USB drive. Do not run the ZerOS OS Creator on PC.
  5. Plug the USB drive into the console, and tap SETUP -> Load, and choose ZerOS 7.10 to load in
  6. Perform the software update.
  7. Once complete, switch off the console, and unplug the USB drive
  8. Power the console - does it boot normally? It should take around 30 seconds to boot.

If you are able to try this, please let me know how you get on.

Hi,

I followed your instructions and the console booted successfully.

After I loaded the show and restarted it loaded again without any issues.

but then, I left the console off for around 3 minutes & It did NOT start. (again LEDs from the left to the right, Screen stays off.)

When I restarted the desk again it started. After another immediate restart it didn't boot.
Now I am thinking it might have been coincidence that it started with the USB drive plugged in.

kind regards

Philip

Hi Philip,

Thank you for following my instructions.

When you say it didn't start, how long did you leave the console with its LEDs chasing? Were any USB or network devices connected?

If possible, please email us a picture of your console's System Information window to support@zero88.com, to allow us to investigate further. To access this window, please tap the Z/Shift key, and choose System Information from the touchscreen.

I removed all connections (except supply of course)

after roughly 10 minutes (+-2) I switched it off again. (only chasing LED, not even backlight of screen turns on)

When I switch it on with a shorter interval it boots more often but not always.

Sometimes it boots, sometimes it doesn't.

If you agree I would test it with a stabilized 12V PSU to see if this might fix the problem.

I sent en eMail to support@zero88.com with a picture of the system information. I also referred the link to the forum

kind regards

Philip
