Rye started following FLX S48 Effect Parameters
- Today
-
Hey, I've been trying to solve this problem for a while - I've checked as many different forums posts as I could find to no avail. I'm using an FLX S48 console, with a bunch of different Tungsten and LED lights for a venue I work at. The end result I'm hoping for is a playback fader that can fade a rainbow colour effect in and out over the top of various other colours. For instance, I'll have a Blue wash on stage, and I want to fade that into a blue tinted rainbow effect, and then keep the moving colour effect but change the tint to red or green or whatever colour. I've tried a bunch of different methods with mixed results, but finally managed to get something close to what I wanted. I have some Playbacks with various colours - and then what I've been calling my Rainbow Fader. On this fader I've saved every LED with a Rainbow Effect at the speed/offset I want, but not recording the intensity; and with the colour values set to 0/ignored instead of the default 127. I've also set the fader to control Effect. Now, when I have the Rainbow Fader up, then fade in another colour like blue on a different playback, it fades into a nice blue-ish rainbow effect. Very nice, was what I was hoping for. The slight problem is doing it the other way around. If I have the colour up already and fade in the Rainbow Fader, it does indeed fade into the effect - but it also fades in the recorded Effect Speed, meaning if I fade it up fast, the colours rapidly shift around all over the place as it alters the effect speed really fast until it reached the recorded value. I've sort of been able to work around this by putting in a Raise/Lower time of like, 5 seconds. It helps smooth the effect speed transition, but is a bit limiting. What I was hoping for was to be able to control the Effect Size on the fader, but keep the Effect Speed the same the whole time. I've tried using stuff like the Speed Override, but either I'm not doing it correctly or it doesn't seem to work. I thought it would work like controlling the individual colour values on playback faders - where you can select/de-select the RGB values before recording, just with the Effect Parameters instead (Intensity, Speed, Size, Offset) I can also imagine other scenarios where this could be useful - maybe you have a moving head effect where you want the size to stay consistent - but be able to control the speed on a fader. Or maybe you want the speed/size to stay the same and control the offset on a fader. Would anyone know if there's a way of achieving something like the effect I'm hoping for, or perhaps a way of doing something like I described? Any helps would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Archie, Why do you need to access this? The ZerOS Start-Up Tool was introduced in ZerOS 7.9, primarily to allow FLX S consoles to be recovered, as these do not support bootable drives. The Start-Up Tool was not present in ZerOS 7.8. Edward

Hi Archie Thanks for your response, all understood

Not used it yet as I was in final stages before show was due to start when it came out. I plan on trying it for next one though in a few weeks.

I'd recommend using ZerOS 8.0.1 for your next show as I believe ZOS-12594 is the bug fix for the crashing issue in ZerOS 8.0.0. ZerOS 8.0.1 also fixes the issue when referencing a non-existent palette (ZOS-12752) using syntax (e.g. COLOUR 40 ENTER where Colour Palette 40 does not exist), previously this would crash the desk. This is actually quite useful if you accidentally hit the wrong key while trying to reference a palette (therefore entering the incorrect palette number, accidentally being one that doesn't exist), and then you have to restart the whole desk to gain control again.
-
Anyone used 8.0.1 in anger yet and noted any improved 'up-time' when compared to fairly regular crashes on 8.0.0? Trying to plan what version to program my next show on! Cheers

I know , I read this page but my conclusion is transmitters doesn't work together !!!

Archie D started following Frog 2 Startup Tool and Move on Dark can' be selected
-
Hello @alg, Move on Dark can be enabled via entering your playback's settings (hold SETUP + Tap Playback's button) -> Move on Dark -> Enabled. The 'General', 'Chase', 'Raise and Lower' etc. that you see along the top are tabs to access groupings of playback settings, they aren't buttons to adjust actual settings. By default, when opening a playback's settings window, 'General' will always be the first tab selected (hence you see General every time you open the window), as they are general playback settings which aren't necessarily specific to other tabs such as 'Raise and Lower' or 'Chase'. If you're perhaps thinking of playback defaults found in SETUP -> Defaults -> Playback Defaults, these settings will only be applied to newly created playbacks and will not change existing ones. (D:3.0) in a fade time cell of a cue indicates a delay, with the time before it (0.0 in your case) indicating the actual fade time. If a cue had "5.0 (D:2.0)" in the "Up" cell, when going into that cue the console would delay executing the fade for fading up lights in that cue for two seconds, then proceed with the five second fade. This can be useful in cases for example where you don't want a moving light to come up until it has actually snapped into its position to prevent seeing it swoosh across stage during an intensity fade up or for staggering fades. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask. Archie

I have been plotting a show and found that I couldn't select "Move on Dark". It appear that at some point earlier the playback setting had been set to "General". Having plotted the show found that I needed Move on Dark but each time I made the change in Playback Defaults and saving it and closing defaults, the next time I looked in Playback Defaults it had been changed back to "General"! Any ideas why I can't select Move on Dark after plotting a show? I have also had a problem with another, the Colour fade time default, this had been set to 3 sec. Again after plotting I found that I needed to change the time to 0 secs. This changed on the Q stack page but had (D3.0) on the Q line as well as 0.0. It appears that the default was held and was overriding the 0.0 setting I had entered. To get the fade to work as I wanted I had to deleted the Q and reprogramme it with the Colour fade time as 0.0. The (D 3.0) was removed and the fade working correctly. Again any ideas on what was happening here. I'm not sure if these are related problems or separate

Hi all - unfortunately, I fear that this post may not get very far as most Frog 2 users have completely moved on (to my knowledge), but here goes.. On my Frog 2, I wish to access the ZerOS Startup Tool. Usually, you'd keep tapping F1 while the console is booting. If I do this on my Solution XL, it works as expected. Frog 2, nope... After the console's blue BIOS splash screen on the external monitor saying "Loading, please wait..." disappears, I keep tapping/holding F1 but the console boots straight into the main ZerOS application. The tapping/holding down of F1 is mentioned both in the online manual, and in a comment by Simon (original software developer for Frog2OS - that's ZerOS now). One theory that I've been thinking about - usually when updating the console with a bootable USB drive (old method), a screen would appear with an 'Update Software' button, I think that is using the Startup Tool application on the console's CF card (separate from the main ZerOS application). Even when I plug in a bootable USB or use the original 7.8.2.39 software CD to try and bring that update window up, still nothing. My conclusion is that the startup tool application doesn't actually exist on the desk's CF card. At some time, I plan to open the console and extract the CF card, pop it into my CF reader and see if the Startup Tool application exists on it. If it doesn't, I think I would be able to extract it from the Solution CF card (from memory the Startup Tool is from 2007 across all desks, so I think it should work fine) and put it on the Frog 2 one. Before I do that, are they any ideas anybody may have as to why this is happening? Many thanks for any assistance with this. Archie

Following the problems we've had with our FLX and knowing that a bug fix was going to be released some time I check the web site about once a month just to see if if anything had been released. We'll get it loaded next month as we've got a hire in at the moment and see how it performs on the next show.

@Phil Kiernan How did you hear about this? It passed me by. Not that I care much, I didn't upgrade to 8.0.0 and probably won't risk 8.0.1. @kgallenI'm going shopping for ChamSys once the new tax year starts.

Archie, Many thanks for your reply. After reading your reply above, I swapped from selecting all the fixtures and applying a default, and stepped through all fixtures one by one and applied the default also fixture by fixture. As I did I could see some colour information that way. All working now - fades occur as expected - some blackout cues had to be rebuilt - but overall we are now working. I've learnt something new - I had never checked or tested the default settings before, and I am delighted it now works as I expect it to. Only change to workflow is creating new scenes I now have to select a fixture and chose the colour I want first, as of course the intensity comes up black now. But easily manageable. Reading the old threads led me down the path of 'Select all' Spin all colours to '0' 'Record' 'Home' 'Defaults' - which was not applying default to black on all fixtures. Changing to 'Select Fixture 1' 'Spin all Colours to 0' 'Record' 'Home' 'Defaults', and then 'Fixture 2' 'Spin all Colours to 0' 'Record' 'Home' 'Defaults', and so on was the solution. Thanks again Ian

Hi @Ian_p, Please could you upload your showfile here? We may then be able to figure out if it's a problem with the fixture itself, or if the fixture has some funny channel on it in the profile causing this erratic flashing behaviour, thank you. The previous 'Edit Fixtures' window to see and change defaults of fixtures was removed in ZerOS 7.9.3 in favour of the new Fixture Schedule section of SETUP. To see a fixture's defaults, you could select the fixture(s) and page through the different attributes and see each individual parameter value on the internal touchscreen of FLX S.

Good afternoon @Richard Elv, You can purchase a Phantom ZerOS Unlock Dongle from one of the distributors, or from here on StageGear. For outputting DMX with Phantom ZerOS, the Unlock Dongle must be plugged into your computer. If it is unplugged, DMX output will stop until the dongle is present again. Regarding methods of actually getting DMX out of your computer from Phantom ZerOS, you have two options. The first, is to output over the network using protocols such as ArtNet or streamingACN. The second, using a USB to DMX device (ones which support the ENTTEC protocol). Personally, I recommend the ENTTEC DMX USB Pro, which is generally considered to be a very high quality device and can be configured straight from ZerOS in SETUP -> Devices. Each of these devices will output one full universe of DMX. When running Phantom ZerOS as a FLX, you have access to 16 full universes of DMX (8192 DMX channels) over 64 patchable universes. If you're already used to using FLX, using a Phantom ZerOS Unlock Dongle will be ideal as it will give you the front panel you are already familiar with - just virtually. This can be used with a touchscreen, along with the external monitor for multi-touch functionality. Yes, the ZerOS Wing can be used with Phantom ZerOS running on a PC via USB as if you were using it with a physical console, therefore you will be able to use it across both your FLX and Phantom setup. Using a ZerOS Wing is the best option to give you more faders at one time.

All, I've read all the threads I can about default settings - but I'm still having issues with an intermittent flash to white when fading between cues. Worse if the fade is more than a second. FLX S24, V8 software, using playback 0 in a theatrical cue stack. All conventional dimmer lanterns are on page 1 and 3 - no issue with these. All LED fixtures are on page 2 for convenience. I select all by holding first channel button and pressing the last and then I can see RGBW on the inbuilt screen - moved these to 0, press 'Record', 'Home', 'Default'. Only it doesn't seem to work. Still getting the flash - but only sometimes not every fade which baffles me. Do I need to set default fixture by fixture...? Is there a way to look at the config of a fixture and see what the defaults are? At present I seems I can only overwrite the default - without seeing its present state. Any assistance would be gratefully received! Cheers Ian
