Intensity values may be dispayed in in blue, red, white, purple....  Sometimes the meaning is obvious, sometimes not.  I'd really value a table showing the implication of each colour.

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply.  I can't find anything in the manual when I search for "Blocked value".  Would you explain, please.

A blocked value is one that stops any tracking ("purple" value) from an earlier cue. If you record a cue using SHIFT+RECORD then you will get a "snapshot" cue which records everything and thus blocks tracking and effectively restarts any tracking from that snapshot cue.

The downside of snapshot (blocking) cues is they also block Move On Dark which is not usually a good thing if you have anything mechanical which needs to "prep" for a later cue. Examples are moving lights, colour scrollers, gobo rotators.

Hello,

A “Blocked” intensity value, indicated in white, is a value which is recorded in a cue, that is identical to the value recorded in the previous cue. The intensity is therefore told to go to the value it is at already.

A “Tracked” intensity value, indicated in purple, is a value which has not been given a new instruction by a cue, and is therefore still the same value it was in the previous cue.

Hope this helps,

Edward

It still baffles me when we just so happen to reply at an identical time in the evening 😂

And yep, good point - you’ll probably get blocked intensity values from recording a Snapshot cue, if you have not manually changed values from the previous cue.

We're equally sad.

It freaked me out as after my reply the thread said it was unread and you'd edited it at *exactly* the same time. And so you had...!

...and I hadn't arrived here from an email notification, just happened to refresh the page, so it's not like we both got the email and decided to reply! Spoooky...

Just so happens I had purple intensity values myself this evening. I don't normally use cue stacks, much less blocking cues, but it happens that I had added a rainbow effect to a stack of cues and the purple values came up when it was running so, I'm guessing, that an effect cue operates like a blocking cue.

Am I right?

Let's say you turned your LED fixtures on, and then recorded this as cue 1. Then, the next thing you do, is apply a rainbow effect to the LED fixtures, and record this as cue 2.

At the point of recording cue 2, you didn't tell the fixtures to turn on. You didn't need to, as they were on already. Therefore the intensity of these fixtures is displayed as purple in cue 2, showing these fixtures have not been given an update to their intensity value in this cue.

Hope this helps,

Hmm, yes except I didn't turn them on in the programmer. I have sub masters for the intensities. I just assumed that the rainbow effect was colour and intensity and that was where the purple intensity value came from. I'll have to look later.

Not important, just curious.

When SmartTag is enabled, ZerOS essentially brings those intensities from your playback into the programmer at the point of recording. If it didn't, they wouldn't get recorded, as per the behaviour when SmartTag is disabled.

Therefore when SmartTag is enabled, if you bring up the intensity using a playback, they will be recorded into the cue, but if there is then no change in intensity to record cue 2, the intensity will "track" from cue 1.

Hope this helps,

Well that's definitely not what I want so perhaps I need to check this out.

What I'm trying to do is have a playback that is just colours and control intensity on faders. The colour cues are triggered, out of sequence, using midi. I've been doing this successfully for months but I was making changes to the cues and adding effects to the stack.

Another thing to check out. I'm in the theatre for the next 3 days so I can use a real rig instead of Capture.

Thanks for the input though.

For this, you will definitely want to make sure SmartTag is disabled.

This will allow you to have one playback just for intensity, and another playback just for colours.
