Hi Mostyn,

What colour is your Elara? If it is Grey, then its a Mk1 version, made from 1998 to 2003. Further information can be found here...

Hope that helps you get started, any queries let me know.

Hi Mostyn,

I don't know what your use case is (theatre, busking, etc), but just be aware that the Elara is a "submasters desk" where you programme lighting states to each submaster fader. This is different to a cue stack desk, which is more typical for a theatre use model. The Elara's sister desk, the Alcora, is a cue stack desk.

Regards,

Kevin

The Elara/Alcora series desks are a cracking little desk - very robust and easy to use once you get a hang of the basics, they're also relatively trouble free in terms of maintenance - generally only needing new faders.

The Mk2 versions have a little more functionality as they allow DMX patching but otherwise there's little difference between the two marks.

They certainly are! My first own-purchase lighting desk was an Alcora (Mk1) - and bought from Ian too, way back in 2000. I still have it, and it comes out every now and again when I want something straightforward and light. Also since mine has DMX and analogue outputs it can fit into pretty much any dimmer system.

I specifically bought a second hand Alcora Mk2 to use as a "slave" desk if I needed to loan someone a desk during repair - 24 channels of rock solid DMX and easy to use event after a few years - I can't say that about some of the generic chinese 24 channel desks :)
