ORB XF Lighting Controls Not Responding

I attempted to update our Zero88 ORB XF to ZerOS 7.14. The software update was successful, but I now have no control over the light fixtures from the board. The board had never been updated from 7.3 and I have no way to restore it to its original state to my knowledge. I tried downgrading to 7.9.5, but still do not have any sort of control over the lights from the board. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I did check all of the connections and everything is still connected properly.

Thank you!

There have been a massive amount of changes to ZerOS since 7.3 including (I understand) significant changes to the operating paradigm.

You’ve probably done the equivalent of moving from Windows XP to Windows 10.

Before the Zero88 guys can be more specific I think you’re going to have to download a lot of the intervening release notes and have a read. Also have a search on this forum, probably most usefully in the Solution (or ZerOS LeapFrog) area, for discussions on this and probably around the 7.9 to 7.12 versions. (No point in looking at the FLX forum).

Dumb question: Have you checked your lights are still patched?

Hi, in reply to your message (best we share this live so others more knowledgable on Orb can help):

Your patch looks sensible if you have normal dimmers (I can see at least 27 on your screen shot) and they are based at DMX address 1. This would be typical so I don’t see anything out of the ordinary there.

Otherwise I’m afraid I know nothing about your board other than it is a very capable and high end desk (as a school you are very lucky!).

We could try come commands (but you might have to do other things on the Orb for these to work). For example:

1 THRU 24 @50

do any lights come on? If you drop and raise the grand master and master playback faders does this help?

Otherwise I would give Keith (Service Manager and all-round good egg) at Zero88 a call.

@arocknamedjc I know it sounds like a silly question but are you certain that you had control of your lights before the update i.e. you weren't updating to fix a problem? It might be feasible that the grandmaster has failed at zero so the desk doesn't output anything - you need to run a front panel test on the desk to check it's working perhaps?

It's also possible that if you have fixtures connected to your desk i.e. LED's or moving heads that there might have been changes in the fixture definitions since your early version - I can't remember how ZerOS handles that situation I'm afraid but I would expect it to make a decent go at leaving you with useable fixtures.

Contact Keith on the number above as suggested & be ready to eMail a showfile for him to look at  - he'll also talk you through accessing the built in front panel test so you can check the desk is working as it should.

hi, beleive you mail the support box as well, which i have replied to.

It may be easier to call me if if you can get in from of the desk to talk through some of the options.

Number in the sign off is the best to use.

Upon loading a show file, ZerOS will compare the fixtures in the show file with the latest versions of the fixtures in the installed ZerOS Library. If the fixture personalities are identical in absolutely everyway, ZerOS will patch these fixtures from the library, rather than the show file. If there are any differences in the fixtures, ZerOS will load the fixtures from the show file, leaving you with two slightly different versions of the same fixture in Add Fixtures.

@Edward Z88 I think I remember your or Jon telling me that at some point but it's been forever since I've patched a ZerOS desk in vain :P
